Account/Profile

    • Upon signing in to the app, you will be prompted to Turn On Locations in your Settings. Turning on locations helps us show you the best fishing spots located near you, so you don’t have to set a new region each time. 

OR

    • Select the “More” icon on the navigation bar in the bottom, right-hand corner of the screen. 
    • Select “Edit Profile”, and scroll down to Angler Interests.
    • Choose “My Fishing Region” and hone in or out (10-500 mile radius) on your location, then select “Confirm Fishing Region”.
    • Select the “More” icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
    • Select “Edit Profile” under your username.
    • Scroll down under the “About” section to update your profile information. 
    • Select the “More” icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
    • Select “Edit Profile” under your username.
    • Toggle to the “Preferences” section in the middle-top of your screen and scroll down to the Privacy section.
    • Here you can make your Hometown, Birth Date, Skill Level and Gender Public or Private.

OR

    • Select the “More” icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
    • Scroll down to the “Preferences” section.
    • Select “Privacy”.
    • Here you can make your Hometown, Birth Date, Skill Level and Gender Public or Private.
    • Select the “More” icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
    • Select “Edit Profile” under your username.
    • Toggle to the “Social Logins” section at the top of your screen, and select “Invite Friends” at the bottom of your screen.
    • Here you will be able to send an invitation via your contact book, your social profiles, text message, link or whatever other apps you have enabled.

OR

    • Select the “More” icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
    • Scroll down to the “Preferences” section. 
    • Select “Invite Friends”.
    • Here you will be able to send an invitation via your contact book, your social profiles, text message, link, or whatever other apps you have enabled.
    • Select the “More” icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
    • Select “Edit Profile” under your username.
    • Toggle to the “Social Logins” section at the top of your screen, and follow the steps to connect your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Newsfeed

  • Global: includes posts from all anglers on the platform.
  • Local: can be customized to a radius of 10-500 miles around you.
  • Following: can be tailored by following specific fish species, anglers and bodies of water.
    • To follow an angler, tap on an angler’s profile name in your feed. Then select “Follow” on their profile page.
    • To follow a body of water – Tap the “More” icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the app screen, then tap “Bodies of Water near me.”
    • Scroll down to find labeled bodies of water and select “Follow” to the right of the body of water you wish to follow. If you don’t see the desired body of water, use the search bar at the top of the screen to find the river, lake, or pond you are searching for.
    • To follow a specific fish species, select the “More” icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the app screen, then tap “Fish Species”. Scroll down to find your species of choice and tap “Follow”. If you don’t see the species you are looking for, use the search bar at the top to find your species of choice.

Post Types

    • To log a catch, select the “+” icon in the bottom center of the app home screen, then tap “Log a Catch” and follow the instructions.
    • To mark a fishing spot, select the “+” icon in the bottom center of the app home screen, then tap “Mark a Fishing Spot” and follow the instructions.
    • To log a fishing report, select the “+” icon in the bottom center of the app home screen, then tap “Log a Report” and follow the instructions.
    • To post a photo, select the “+” icon in the bottom center of the app home screen, then tap “Post a Photo” and follow the instructions.

    • Select the “More” icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your app screen. Next, select “My Catches” under the Fishing Logs section. Scroll through your Catches timeline, select a photo, then hit the “…” icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Select the “Edit” option from the pop-up menu. Next tap the photo you wish to edit. You can either take a new photo, remove the photo, edit the photo, or preview the photo.
    • You can share your catches with all FishAngler users, set them to private so that only you can see them, or post them to specific groups, clubs or pages you are part of.
    • Logging a catch gives you the choice of adding over 45 catch attributes regarding your catch like bait type, water temperature, water depth and more! Posting a photo includes more simplified information, like photo details and location.
    • You can choose whether or not your catches are visible publicly. You can also always choose to simply exclude the location of your catch or photo as well.

Maps

    • Select the “Map” icon on the navigation bar at the bottom of the app screen. Place your finger on the map and drag to change location on the map. Double tap or press the “+” and-” icons at the bottom right-hand corner of the map to zoom in and out. You can also “pinch and zoom” in and out by placing two fingers on the screen close together and dragging them apart to hone closer in on a region, or placing two fingers on the screen farther apart and pulling them together to make the map region larger.
    • You can search for bodies of water nearby at the top of the screen, or tap catches, photo and fishing spot icons to see where other users are catching fish.
    • You can report missing bodies of water. To do so, tap the More” icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the app screen, then tap “Bodies of Water near me”. Then, select the “+” symbol in the upper right-hand corner. Select the map screen and center the crosshair icon on the missing body of water then tap “Done”.
    • A great way to access bodies of water is to select the “Map” icon on the navigation menu and place your cursor in the search bar at the top of the screen. Bodies of water will populate the “Nearby” section under Current Location, Favorites and the Recent section.
    • Select an body of water, and an information card will pop up at the bottom of the map screen. In the lower right-hand corner of the card you will see icons for weather and directions. Selecting the directions icon will prompt you to open the body of water address in one of your map apps, or to copy the address or coordinates to your clipboard. Select an option and you’ll be on your way!
    • Select the “More” icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your FishAngler app screen. Then scroll down and tap “Bodies of Water near me” under the Discover section. Press the the “+” symbol in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Tap the map screen and center your the crosshairs on the missing body of water and press “Done”.
    • Next add the body of water name, a possible alternate name, and any notes you have for the FishAngler Team regarding the body of water.
    • The FishAngler Team will reply to your body of water report as soon as possible.

Forecast

    • The fishing forecast is an algorithm that is based on the Solunar Theory. The Solunar Theory suggests peak animal and fish movement is based on the position of the moon and sun. You can learn more about the Solunar Theory here.
    • If you click into the Forecast section then the Fish Forecast, you will see a percentage that coincides with an hourly chart. You can slide the screen left or right to display times earlier or later in the day and the percentage values will change. The higher the percentage; the more active fish will be during that time. 
    • From the Forecast screen, you can search for your local buoy/station at the top of the screen or change your current location.
    • From the Map screen, you can select tides by zooming in and locating a red pin (buoy/station).
    • To ensure your tide information is populating, make sure your location services or turned on. Or select your Fishing Region in your profile by going to “More” and selecting “Edit Profile”. Scroll down to “Angler Interests” on the “About” tab, and choose “My Fishing Region”. Confirm your location from a 10 to 50 mile radius.

Communication & User Preferences

    • Direct communication is on the roadmap for development. In the meantime, you can comment directly at a user in the comments of a post. Just tag them with the “@” symbol and type in their name. They will be notified in the “Activities” section of their Feed.
    • Select the user’s profile name, then press the “…” icon in the top right corner of the screen. From there, you have the option to follow, block, report or share the user’s profile. You can also report a user by sending an email to info@fishangler.com or support@fishangler.com with the user’s name and reason for the report.
    • Select the “Activities” icon in the upper-right hand corner of the Feed screen. (It’s the one with the comment bubble with a barbed fishing hook overlaid, above the “Following” feed toggle.)
    • Once you are in the Activities menu, select the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen to access Notification Settings. 
    • Toggle on or off notifications for mobile such as follows, likes, comments, posts, etc.
    • If you are still not receiving notifications, you may have to enable them for the app in your phone settings.
